Winter Woes

So I've been told by Fritz, who was in turn told by his cousin Fluffy up in Canada, that Australian winters aren't cold. Well, in my humble, clumsy opinion they're freezing... and I'm not a big fan of the rain. It makes everything slick, and as everyone whose ever met me knows, slick for Spaz is a bad thing, and usually results in crashes. Take the front veranda for example... it's this sort of tiled stretch that's about a metre wide in front of the door... it's great to sit on and lounge in the sun, but represents a hazard when it's raining and wet. I've learned in the last few months to simply walk up the stairs and tip-toe my way across it rather than my tried and true method of the summer months of bounding and leaping over all the garden stuff and throwing myself up onto the veranda. You see, when you throw yourself up there and your paws are wet and/or the veranda is wet you slide... and if you have enough momentum you slide into the wall... and well, walls are hard and kitty isn't. Enough said?

So yeah, now I tip-toe. Fritz just shakes his head and walks off. I think I embarass him.

Secret Agent Kitty

I may not seem to bright, it's all a ploy to get people to think I'm dim-witted and then catch them off guard with my feline reflexes, speed, and strength... I'm a great hunter, the bane of the world of birds and smally scurrying animals... I laugh in the face of danger, can leap small buildings in a single bound... can walk a tightrope across great chasms to save the day... the picture of gracefulness, balance and perfection... all bone and sinew and muscle waiting to spring the trap...

Oh okay... so maybe not, but I can pretend can't I?

Every morning I wake up and hope that I've got some "Secrety Agent Kitty" powers that haven't come to the top yet. I dream of being the suave and cool tom that all the kitties adore, and I really look like I might actually pull it off when I'm sitting still. (No really, sitting still I do look completely graceful, I even fool myself sometimes.) I tried to tell Fritz about this and he just laughed himself into a hairball attack, I kept hoping he'd choke, but no luck. I mean, I didn't think it was that funny.

So unfortunately my operation didn't fix the klutz fault that I have in my little brain, and it didn't fix my eyesight... I had hoped, but the depth perception is the same as always... as in, not there.

A good note though, they've moved one of the big blue chairs closer to the couch so that now I can step from the arm of the couch to the arm of the chair without jumping, it has saved numerous unexpected trips to the floor for me... and it's given me the opportunity to save some face in the "look isn't that cat really graceful" department. I think they did it so that people who visit them don't feel sorry for me... I mean, they already feel sorry enough right?

Oh and now I've got my own spot here in the computer room. It's mine and no one elses. AG is very thoughtful that way, and she even shares snacks with me. I think I'll keep her a while longer. It's really nice, the spot I mean, it's on the window ledge in front of the computer desk so I can't fall off, and she raises the blind so that I can see out without bumping my head. It's great on sunny days because it's really warm and I can see everything going on outside. I sit there and pretend I'm king of the area and just keeping an eye out on my subjects. Life is good.

They've even got this little table, in front of the ledge (I can actually just step up on that and then another short step to the window ledge), with a thing that shoots out paper sitting on it, that provides hours of entertainment, and I'm fascinated by the fact that they put white paper in the top and it comes out with little black letters from the bottom. I've tried to stick my paw into the top to see what's in there doing the writing, but AG and the other girl keep telling me not to that I'll get stuck if I do that. I'll have to try it sometime when they're not around so I can find out the secret.

Meanwhile I'm content staring out the window, in my own little world...

Walk Softly

At that point I walked softly for a few days, and did very little jumping (not that I jump a lot anyway, unless it's something I can reach). It wasn't actually as bad as you'd think, I got a lot of attention, some major cuddles and nice cat food at all my houses. Fritz was right, if you work them right, humans pay off.

Now you're caught up with most of my life, or at least snippets of it till the time when I started this blog. I guess you can say that events leading up to that day made my life flash before my eyes and I wanted to write it down for posterity between snacks, and cleaning of course.

So what's going on now? Well pretty much the same old same old, only I'm really growing up. Apparently my body isn't a kitten body anymore, it's turning into a cat body, and I'm learning the best way to hold down the couch cushions. Fritz spends most of his time at the house where they guy waits on him, and I prefer this house with the two chicks. One of them lets me use the computer to type this, and the other gives good scratchies in the evening. Life is hard.

Unfortunately I've not grown out of my clumsy days. I honestly don't think I ever will. Maybe they should change my name from Spaz to "Crash, boom, bash, bump, are you okay kitty?"
